About the Event
The Award Ceremony of the National Reading and Creativity Competition for Senior Secondary School Students in Nigeria was successfully held on 10th July 2026 at the Auditorium of the Federal Ministry of Education, Federal Secretariat, Abuja.
The event brought together students, teachers, school administrators, parents, education stakeholders, and distinguished guests from different parts of Nigeria to celebrate excellence in reading, creativity, critical thinking, and academic achievement among young people.
The competition was organized by The Futuremap Media Concepts Limited and proudly sponsored by the Bank of Industry (BOI). It was designed to promote a strong reading culture among secondary school students, improve comprehension skills, stimulate creativity, and encourage innovative thinking that can contribute meaningfully to national development.
A total of twelve (12) secondary schools participated in the competition:
1. Rex Christus College, Kubwa, Abuja
2. Jubilee Secondary School, Akokwa, Imo State
3. Girls Secondary School, Akwakuma, Owerri, Imo State
4. Goldengate Pentagon College, Kubwa, Abuja
5. Marist Brothers Secondary School, Uturu, Abia State
6. Southern British High School, Calabar, Cross River State
7. Noshkare Model Education Center, Benin, Edo State
8. Alvanah Model Secondary School, Owerri, Imo State
9. Sunshine International Secondary School, Bauchi State
10. Peniel Children Academy, Kubwa, FCT Abuja
11. De Glory Land College, Ejigbo, Lagos State
12. Domino College, Akokwa, Imo State
The competition attracted a total of seventy-one (71) students in the first round, while thirty (30) students qualified for the second round from which the winners emerged.
Students from Rex Christus College, Kubwa, Abuja distinguished themselves by winning the First and Third Prize positions, while a student from Sunshine International Secondary School, Bauchi State emerged as the Second Prize winner.
The ceremony featured goodwill messages from distinguished guests, insightful presentations on the importance of reading and creativity in nation-building, recognition of participating schools, and the presentation of awards and certificates to outstanding students.
In their remarks, the organizers stressed the urgent need to revive and sustain a reading culture among Nigerian youths. They encouraged students to continue investing in personal development through reading, learning, critical thinking, and creativity, emphasizing that these qualities are essential for leadership, innovation, and national progress.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of prizes, certificates, and recognition awards to the winners and participating schools. The award recipients were celebrated for their exceptional performance, commitment, creativity, and determination throughout the competition.
The National Reading and Creativity Competition has established itself as a valuable platform for promoting literacy, encouraging intellectual growth, and nurturing the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and leaders in Nigeria. Through this initiative, young people are inspired to discover the transformative power of reading and apply their knowledge creatively to solve real-world challenges.
The organizers expressed profound appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Education, the Bank of Industry, participating schools, principals, teachers, parents, media partners, and all stakeholders whose support, encouragement, and collaboration contributed significantly to the success of the programme.
As preparations begin for the second edition, the organizers look forward to a bigger, more impactful, and more inclusive competition. The next edition is expected to expand participation across four categories:
• Primary 4–6
• Junior Secondary School (JSS 1–3)
• Senior Secondary School (SSS 1–3)
• Tertiary Institution Students
This expansion will provide greater opportunities for young learners across different educational levels to develop strong reading habits, enhance creativity, and build the skills needed for future success.
We therefore invite corporate organizations, government agencies, development partners, non-profit organizations, foundations, philanthropists, and individuals who are passionate about education and youth development to join this transformative movement. Together, we can strengthen literacy, inspire creativity, and empower a generation of young Nigerians to become productive citizens and future leaders capable of driving sustainable national development.
