ECOWAS VOWS TO REINSTATE MOHAMMED BAZOUM
The ongoing coup in Niger has attracted concern as International
organizations, non-governmental organizations has condemns the civil unrest.
This is coming few minutes after the border countries of Niger , Burkina Faso,
Mali and Guinea issued a statement against the reinstatement of deposed
President Of Niger Mohammed Bazoum.
Niger Coup leaders have named General
Abdourahamane Tchiani, the former presidential guard chief as The Head of
State.
According to the coup leaders, they postulated that the reason behind
the coup and subsequent deposing of Bazoum emanated as a result of his
administration's poor governmental policies, and insecurity threats from
insurgent groups linked to queada and ISIS.
However, The Economic Community Of
West African States ECOWAS, has imposed sanctions including a halt in financial
transactions, freezing of the country's national asset, thus threatening to
reinstate Bazoum through the use of authorized force.
Guinea's president
Doumbouya has expressed dissatisfaction with the sanction recommended by
ECOWAS, including Military intervention.
In a social media post on Monday,
Doumbouya's office said that the sanctions are option that would not bring
about lasting solutions but would lead to a humanitarian disaster whose
consequences could extend to the borders of Niger.
Earlier on Monday, the coup
leaders in Niger alleged that Bazoum's government had ordered a French attack
on the presidential palace, a claim the french government has denied.
