U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate for the November presidential election.
Harris will be competing against former President Donald Trump from the Republican party.
Walz, emerged as an unexpected choice and was selected over other prominent figures such as Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, who were initially considered frontrunners.
Over the past week, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz's profile surged, especially after a viral interview where he criticized some Republicans as “weird”—a tactic later adopted by national Democrats.
Walz was seen as a more secure pick for Harris due to his strong liberal credentials, especially after other contenders faced criticism from different left-leaning groups.
Despite Biden winning Minnesota by seven points in 2020 and no Republican securing the state in over 50 years, Trump and his running mate JD Vance have intensified their campaign efforts there.
