The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has urged the separation of the offices of the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) and the Accountant-General of the federal government to ensure accountability. The governors also called for greater transparency in revenue allocation among federal, state, and local governments.
This call was made during their monthly meeting held in Jalingo, Taraba State, over the weekend. Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who chairs the forum, expressed concerns over the federal government's failure to clearly differentiate between federal revenue and revenue meant for the federation.
The governors urged the federal ministry of finance and the AGF to adhere to Section 162 of the Constitution, which outlines revenue-sharing principles among the three tiers of government. They also accused the AGF of showing bias toward the federal government.
The forum emphasized the need for the AGF to fulfill their role in accordance with the Constitution, advocating for the separation of the AGF's responsibilities from those of the federal government's accountant-general.
