11,720 pastors for ordination at RCCG’s 71st annual convention

• Army General heads camp security

• Adeboye urges Nigerians to trust God for ‘Great Expectations’

This was announced last night by RCCG’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, on the last day of the four-day Ministers’ Conference.

The graduation of 6,052 students from the Redeemers’ Bible College will today open the 71st annual convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) at the Redemption City on Kilometre 48, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

Adeboye, who will later today minister at a welcome service at the convention, christened: Beyond Expectations, gave the breakdown of the pastors to be ordained as deacons and deaconesses (8,499); assistant pastors (1,325) and full pastors (1,896), making a total of 11, 720.

The deacons and deaconesses are to be ordained tomorrow morning.

The General Overseer also announced that the Governing Board of the RCCG had approved the rechristening of the Redemption Camp as Redemption City of God.

He said the church had appointed a retired Army General to head the rejigged camp security.

The General, Adeboye said, would be assisted by a former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for the church’s security matters.

Defending the step taken on the security of the camp, he said: “The Bible describes God as a Man of War,” adding that the RCCG has its members in top positions in the various security outfits.

The curtain will drop on the week-long convention on August 13 with the ordination of full pastors and a farewell service at the 3×3-kilometre Auditorium.

Also, Pastor Adeboye has urged Nigerians to trust God wholeheartedly for the country to come unscathed out of the current difficulties.

He assured that God would not allow shame to befall the nation.

Adeboye spoke yesterday at the RCCG Headquarters’ Throne of Grace at Ebute Metta in Lagos during the church’s monthly thanksgiving service with the theme: Looking Unto Jesus.

The eminent preacher prayed for businessmen and women, transporters, self-employed, housewives, husbands and their families across the country.

The cleric, who said there is nothing God cannot do, urged Nigerians to hold tenaciously to the Almighty for Him to heal the country.

“It is a matter of priority as the Lord said in His words that if Nigerians can put God first, Who is the Greatest Provider, Who also said silver and gold are His, He will provide for the needs of Nigerians and promote them.

“God is the Great Deliverer,” he said.

Adeboye assured Nigerians that at the convention, which will hold from August 7 to 13, with the theme: Great Expectations, would give them positive surprises, if they could have faith in God.
