Medical and Pharmacy students at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State will pay N30,000 to resit any exam that they fail.
This was disclosed in a memo by the university sighted by our correspondent on Monday.
The memo signed by the Registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim, said the varsity’s management fixed the exam resit fee at its meeting on August 7, 2023.
According to reports, a resit examination is one that is taken when a student fails a test or examination in the first instance.
The memo with Reference Number FUOYE/REG/MM/105/Vol3/409 and dated October 13, 2023, reads: “ The university management, at its meeting held on 7th August 2023, considered and approved the request for students in the faculties of Pharmacy and Basic Medical Sciences to resit for examination starting from 200 Level and above.
“The management also approved that the examination resit fee shall be N30,000 only per course.”
Meanwhile, some students of the institution, who spoke to our correspondent on Monday, expressed concern over what they tagged as the high cost of resit examination.
A 300-level pharmacy student, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said, “I was disturbed when I heard the news. Some of us have like three courses that we have to resit. That means we have to pay like N90,000. Where does the school expect us to get the money? We need PUNCH newspapers to help us. The N30,000 per course is too much.”
Another student said, “I can’t even tell my parents this and I have four to write. I don’t even know what to do at the moment, maybe to give up on life. I know it’s my fault that I had below 50 in the exam but N30,000 is too much in this economy.”
No official at the school could be reached on the matter at the time of filing this report.
However, a student leader, who didn’t want his name in print, noted that efforts were being made to reach the schools’ management on the matter.
