The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has addressed concerns over the early morning announcement of President Bola Tinubu's election victory on March 1, 2023. INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, clarified that presidential elections require the country to be treated as a single constituency, leading to a time-consuming process of collecting results from polling units, wards, local governments, and states.
INEC spokesman Rotimi Oyekanmi emphasized that there is no set time for declaring results, citing the need for accuracy and integrity in the process, which sometimes causes delays.
