The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured victory in 30 out of 31 local government councils in Akwa Ibom State during the recent elections, with the exception of Essien Udim LGA, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) won. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whose hometown is Essien Udim, expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome, contrasting it with his tenure as governor (2007-2015), where he claims to have shown more fairness to the opposition in local elections. Akpabio recalled a past election during his governorship when he instructed the state electoral commission to declare an opposition victory, showcasing his alleged fairness. However, the recent election was described as biased by opposition figures, including YPP's Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, who called the process “shambolic” and predetermined in favor of the PDP.
