President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has launched the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), offering Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at N230 per litre as a cheaper and cleaner alternative to petrol, which currently exceeds N900 per litre. This initiative aims to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal and reduce living costs in Nigeria.
As part of the program, 1 million free CNG conversion kits will be provided to commercial vehicles over the next 18 months, starting with 10,000 kits distributed through transport associations like NURTW and Uber this week. The government has partnered with NIPCO Gas to ensure smooth vehicle conversions nationwide.
This shift to CNG is part of Tinubu's broader strategy to promote sustainable energy and lower fuel costs, with a goal to distribute the full 1 million kits by 2025.
