Shooting halts Match halfway

The Euro 2024 qualifying match between Belgium and Sweden was halted during half-time, due to a tragic shooting incident in Brussels.

Two individuals, wearing Swedish football shirts, were fatally shot by a gunman who was later killed near a café in the Schaerbeek neighborhood.

This incident occurred before the Belgium vs.  Sweden match, which was subsequently suspended at halftime.

With the score 1-1, Belgium and Sweden players decided they did not want to continue the match because of the shooting that had taken place before kick-off.

Players and officials were told at half-time as Sweden captain and Manchester United defender Lindelof, said security put the team 'at ease'

Lindelof also expressed the view that there was 'no reason' to reschedule the game, given that Belgium had already secured their  place for Euro 2024, and Sweden is no longer eligible for next summer's tournament.
