Fenerbahce defender Bright Osayi-Samuel may miss Nigeria's international fixtures in September due to an ankle injury. The injury forced him to sit out Fenerbahce's recent 5-0 league win over Rizespor.
Osayi-Samuel, a key player under Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho, had played in the team's first two league games of the season, helping secure a 1-0 win over Adana Demirspor and a 2-2 draw at Göztepe. However, according to Turkish outlet Haberanlik, he was sidelined in the latest match due to an ankle injury sustained earlier.
As he works on his recovery, Osayi-Samuel's participation in Nigeria's Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September is uncertain. The Super Eagles are set to play the Benin Republic on September 7 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo and face Rwanda three days later.
Osayi-Samuel, 26, has been a vital part of Nigeria’s defense since his debut in 2022, earning 17 caps. He is considered one of Nigeria's top right-backs, alongside Ola Aina of Nottingham Forest, with both players contributing significantly to the Super Eagles’ run to the final of the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
