The incident occurred at Morumbi Stadium, where players from both teams were visibly shocked as Izquierdo was quickly taken away in an ambulance. He was admitted to a hospital in São Paulo, where doctors placed him in intensive care and on a ventilator. Unfortunately, the medical episode also caused brain damage.
Izquierdo began his professional soccer career in 2018 and was in his second term with Nacional, one of Uruguay's leading soccer clubs. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
