Nigerian Victor Osimhen, has secured a spot on the 10-man shortlist for the 2023 CAF Men’s Player of the Year.
The Confederation of African Football revealed the nominees on their official X platform last Friday. Initially, CAF had disclosed a 30-man shortlist for the award a fortnight ago, with further narrowing down to three expected before the ceremony.
Osimhen emerges as a strong contender, notably for his stellar 2022/23 season with Napoli, contributing significantly to their first league title in over three decades, with 26 goals in 32 league appearances.
The 24-year-old notched an additional five goals in the UEFA Champions League.
As the top scorer in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series with 10 goals, Osimhen's outstanding performances are reflected in his nomination.
His Napoli teammates – Frank Zambo-Anguissa, Vincent Aboubacar, Riyad Mahrez, Mohamed Salah, and Achraf Hakimi – also feature on the prestigious 10-man shortlist. The 2023 CAF Awards Gala is set to take place in the City of Marrakech, Morocco, on December 11.
